Exclusive Interview with YouTube’s WeNeedMcCain

by LukeAmerica2020
Today, we’re honored to have the exclusive privilege of interviewing a brilliant and prolific film director who generally has preferred to retain his anonymity. You know how these creative geniuses are.

As a personal fan of his excellent work in producing YouTube videos, I’ve persuaded him to chat with us sharing his personal motivations, development challenges, political perspectives, and upcoming plans. So, without further ado, let me introduce you to Michael C. Brown … millions of YouTubers know him as WeNeedMcCain … of the Dear Mr. Obama video series.

Luke:

You released your first video at the end of August. In two months, you’ve had over TWELVE MILLION views on this one video, “Dear Mr. Obama”. Your videos have been featured on FoxNews, Rush Limbaugh, American Thinker, and many others. You’ve received several YouTube honors? Did you expect this level of coverage and response?

Michael:

I had not a clue! In fact, after uploading DEAR MR. OBAMA, I called Joe and told him we may have to re-shoot it, as I was not able to pull focus (adjust focus as he walked away) because I had no crew, so I was doing everything. But before we could schedule another shoot, this thing just started taking off, we were all quite amazed. I mean, I felt it was going to be a powerful piece, at least for me, I had NO IDEA that it would resonate with so many people around the world.

Luke:

Initially, many folks thought that this video was a secret weapon of the McCain campaign. Have you ever met Senator McCain?

Michael:

I have not had the honor; I do hope I get invited to his inauguration ceremony though!

Luke:

You have, as far as I know, the only viral campaign ad this season. And, it was a volunteer effort by you and the soldier hero to get a message out to America. Has the McCain campaign ever contacted you about running any of your videos in television markets?

Michael:

They have not. At first, I was assuming I would hear from them. But then as it got larger, I realized John McCain would never use a soldier, especially one who had sacrificed so much in Iraq, to boost his run for the White House. It’s just the character and nature of John McCain the man. I have had contact with a couple of Republican PAC Groups who have run DEAR MR. OBAMA on television. We had to re-shoot it for a 60 second format.

Luke:

The soldier star of your first video is Joe Cook. You didn’t publicize your identity or his. In fact, many folks once thought that you and Joe were the same person. But, we now know that he was, in fact, the first famous Joe … before Joe the Plumber. How did you meet Joe Cook?

Michael:

Joe came back from Iraq in 2007. Our small town holds a welcome home celebration that includes a mile long motorcade. I was at that event that I first had the chance to thank Joe for his service.

Luke:

Joe maintains the viewer’s attention with his heartfelt and straightforward message. But, the end is so unexpected. I’ve heard of folks tearing up at the end. Most of us, though, are so moved by it, that we immediately share the video with someone else. Was Joe eager to do the video with you on first blush? Or, did it require a little persuasion?

Michael:

To be honest, I had no idea what Joe’s thoughts of the war was. I had contacted our Mayor to get Joe’s number and talked with his father, who is a Republican. I emailed the script to his Dad and Joe liked it. We did collaborate to tweak the script so everything Joe said was truthful and from the heart. But it required no persuasion on my part, he was happy to do it.

Luke:

Primarily, what motivated you to approach Joe to create this first movie?

Michael:

Joe’s prosthesis. It’s one thing to tell the camera FREEDOM IS ALWAYS WORTH THE PRICE, it’s another thing to show the price paid. As a feature film writer, we have a creed, SHOW, DON’T TELL. And yes, many people have told me how powerful that ending was. When I first saw it in my mind’s eye as I was writing it, I got choked up myself.

Luke:

If you could talk personally with Senator Obama, what would you say to him about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars? The war against terrorism?

Michael:

I would say, “Senator, the United States of America is at war, sanctioned by Congress and the Commander and Chief. Our military is in harm’s way. You sir, are a representative of the government. From the moment the first blood is drawn, till the last U.S. soldier’s boot returns home to American soil, all politicians need to stand united in solidarity, at least publicly. Anything less undermines our military resolve, undermines our troops morale, and provides aid and comfort to our enemies.

Congressional Democrats campaigned in 2006 that they would end this war. Two years later, they have accomplished nothing. You have been calling the war a mistake since 2002 sir, yet it has done nothing to bring ANY troops home, nothing to end this war. In short, I submit to you sir, that you have taken advantage of our troops, you have used them as political pawns for no other purpose than to advance your political agenda, your political power. I consider your repeated actions treasonous and harmful to American resolve.

Luke:

Your second movie is entitled “Dear Mr. Obama II: Economics 101”. I lived through President Carter’s weak economy, disastrous foreign policy, and general malaise. It seems to me that Senator Obama’s ideas would have the same results as those dark times … maybe worse. It truly is Economics 101, and those mistakes should not be repeated. Your video explains the principles of economics in terms that are easy to follow. What one aspect of Obamanomics do you feel that most Americans need to know?

Michael:

They say trickle down economics doesn’t work. But the truth is, it all trickles down whether you apply that economic philosophy or not.

You heavily tax the businesses and two things will happen. 1) They will trim employment. 2) They will raise the cost of goods and services to compensate for the lost profits. In the end, the consumers, those Obama is purporting to help are the ones who get hurt. So what if I get an extra $500 dollar tax break if my cost of living skyrocketed $2500 in a year, or worse, I lost my job!

Luke:

Are there other concerns about a President Obama that you have?

Michael:

Every concern! Look at foreign policy. Obama campaigned with marxist/socialist Odinga in Kenya for a week – at taxpayer expense. When Odinga lost the election in December 2007, he led a group of militant Muslims on a killing spree that took the lives of 1500 people, displaced 500,000 more and burned many churches.

Take Israel, with Obama’s pro-Islamic, pro-Arab, pro-PLO connections, do you really believe he will be a friend to Israel? America IS Israel’s only ally! Europe has become very anti-semetic, along with the U.N. Israel will be surrounded by enemies while America backs away – that’s a VERY dangerous situation.

Domestic policy will hugely suffer. He will grow government beyond belief. He will fund ACORN-like groups across America to ensure that Democrats stay in power forever. He will spend Billions on the World Poverty Act, Global Warming, … the U.N. sucking America dry for decades to come.

Free speech? Well we’ve all seen what he did to Joe the Plumber – ‘nuff said. I could go on and on, but I think I’ve made my point.

 Luke:

Which of your YouTube videos was the most challenging to produce? And, why?

Michael:

The economics 101 was challenging in two respects, how do I make it interesting to watch? And I’d better be accurate. In fact, I failed to mention small business along with large corporations, the two really work hand in hand in America. So coming up with the visual graphics was my way to hold the viewer’s attention and it seemed to work. But I had to spend quite a bit of time in After Effects to animate all of those graphics.

Luke:

Each of your videos is a statement of dignity and respect, addressing Senator Obama formally, man-to-man, rather than constituent-to-politician. Likewise, your viewers feel a sense of inherent respect having watched a professional presentation of the issues. What one message would you like to share with Mr. Obama?

Michael:

Be real sir! I have watched you dance across the political landscape for two years. Depending on who your audience was, you have presented many faces during this campaign cycle and in your earlier life. I find it quite insulting to my intelligence.

Americans want someone who will share their heart, and stands on who they are. You ask America to vote for you, yet you hide your past. You hide your college records from Occidental, Columbia, and Harvard. You hide your Harvard thesis? Why? Don’t you want us to know who you are? As a candidate with the least amount of experience in the last century, isn’t it in your best interest to share everything? You have left me with no other choice but to assume you do not want us to know who you really are, and that is scary. To purposefully, and with willful intent hide who and what you represent, as you run for the highest office in the land, is incredibly fraudulent. And the media is complicit in this. Otherwise, you NEVER would have been able to get as far as you have.

On another note, I’ve met liberals that differed tremendously with my views. But we had active and respectful dialog that benefited us both … perhaps even persuaded a few. Most do care about this Country, but they’ve been introduced to America from the skewed view of their political science professors. All they know are the horrible decisions America has made in the past – hindsight is always 20/20. So I want to push for civil discourse, respectful debate, there is much too learn. That is how you educate, that is how you sway opinion.

Luke:

How about Senator McCain; what message would you like to share with him?

Michael:

Senator, while I have not always agreed with you, I firmly believe you have always done what you felt was best for this Country, and for that I salute you. It takes some kind of guts to rise against your own party. I like that. Our times call for a leader, not a politician. A patriot, not a party loyalist. Thank you for your service to America sir, and I hope you invite me to your inauguration!

Luke:

Governor Palin just might be our first female Vice-President. What message would you like to share with her?

Michael:

You are America’s Esther! I am in awe of your accomplishments and what you can contribute in Washington. I hope you spend a great deal of time in Congress WITH CAMERAS as you set out each and every corrupt, greedy politician, be it Republican or Democrat. Set out all their pork, set out all the waste, and set out all the politicians that are serving themselves and not the American public.

Luke:

And, with the American public; what message would you like to share with us?

Michael:

Thank you. This whole experience has been so humbling. This wasn’t me, or Joe. By ourselves we could do nothing. This video resonated with everyday Americans that have been hammered by the media day in day out for 7 years. YOU are the ones who saw the ad and sent it out to everyone you knew, YOU are the ones who stood up for your Country. YOU are the ones getting active in American politics, YOU are the ones taking your country back from the very brink of destruction. YOU are the ones who truly love America. My part was small next to all you did!

Luke:

I understand that you make movies for a living. Could you tell us a little about what type of work you do?

Michael:

I’ve been in video and film production for 11 years. I cut my teeth providing Pastors with short vignettes to bolster their messages, which was very beneficial for me because I would only have a couple minutes to touch hearts. It allowed me to develop the art of storytelling. So a good portion of my early work has been for the Christian market. I have one Christian-oriented feature film to my credit as writer/director. You can see some of my work here.

I have since moved into feature films designed for mass audiences as a way to impact America. We’ve seen many left-leaning films in theaters and on television. They have had some impact on America in a negative way, especially regarding our social norms. I firmly believe film is one of the most powerful ways to impact the masses, but it calls for a very light touch.

However, coming from a conservative point of view, finding the funding, even 4-6 Million dollars has proven to be a huge challenge. I currently have three completed scripts and an Executive Producer that is looking to fund them in the hopefully not to distant future. I also have a couple political concepts I’m hoping to develop and get produced.

Luke:

The name of your company is Testimony Pictures. It’s motto is “Shedding God’s Light in the World”. You have generously developed some of the most powerfully persuasive political videos this year. Do you see your politics and your faith as intertwined?

Michael:

Actually, I have closed Testimony Pictures as I’ve moved to producing films that aren’t necessarily Christian, but may contain some subtle Christian orientation. I will be starting a new company designed solely for feature films in the near future. I should state, I have not produced ANY of these political ads from my ex-corporate entity Testimony Pictures. To do so, would have been a violation of the Campaign finance laws. (Thanks John)

My politics are intertwined with my faith. I could never vote for a candidate that was not pro-life. My viewpoint is this, if they can’t get that one right, something our Founding Fathers considered to be self-evident in the Declaration of Independence, how can I possibly trust them with the running of this Country? I even voted for a Democrat a few years back with Glenn Poshard was running for Illinios Governor.

Luke:

If someone would like to contact you about hiring you to produce or direct a movie or commercial, how can they best reach you … for price quotes, concept development, etc?

Michael:

My email is best michael@testimonypictures.com. And yes, I would appreciate the work. All the time I’ve taken to research and produce these political ads, has been time taken away from paying jobs. But, it’s been my contribution to the campaign.

Luke:

Do you have any plans to produce more videos if Mr. Obama is elected?

Michael:

I’m praying about that. If Obama is elected, I pray I’ve been wrong about him. I pray he fulfills the promises he has made. We are called as Christians to pray for our nation and elected officials. More than likely, I will produce one more video, calling on us all to pray for America and Obama.

Luke:

The same media reporters and commentators who refuse to ask Mr. Obama any tough questions, have viciously smeared the names of anyone who challenges their leader’s supreme authority. Sarah Palin appears to be stronger for it. But, most of us are still stunned over the treatment of Barbara West and Joe Wurzelbacher. As election day approaches, you and Joe Cook are doing interviews. Are you concerned that you may be targeted by uber-liberal nut-jobs?

Michael:

Well, I can’t say it hasn’t been a concern. But I really feel it has hurt Obama’s cause more than helped. I also feel it has significantly produced McCain’s surge in this last week. The best thing they can do is just leave us along and hope we go away soon. Whether they will or not, is up to them I guess. I’m not looking for publicity, I enjoy my quiet, peaceful life and hope to keep it that way. In the end, I put it all in God’s hands, as I do this election.

Luke:

If Senator Obama is elected, do you believe that Americans will continue to enjoy the rights of free speech as specified in the First Amendment?

Michael:

Well, if this election cycle is any indication, our freedoms will be under attack in every area, not just freedom of speech. Just watching thier actions since Sarah Palin came on the scene is enough to make any dissenting American squirm.

Luke:

In conclusion, Michael, I can not thank you enough for inspiring me personally to political activism this year. I first watched your Dear Mr. Obama video when it had about 200K hits. Initially, I told everyone I knew and many I didn’t know about your powerfully inspiring message. Later, I started my YouTube channel, my web blog with GeekGirl2u, and I’ve become much more active in general … partly because of your presentation of Joe’s message. Thank you. No doubt, many others share this sentiment. You sparked us to activism.

The way I feel today is that if we can persuade two folks and they each persuade two more folks … and so on … we can win this election … despite the Big O’s super-wealthy public financiers and his countless shadow sources. You have made a difference for the conservative movement this campaign season. Thank you.

Michael:

Thank you Luke for all of your hard work. We’ve all made a difference. America is the land of the free and home of the brave as long as we continue to stand up and fight for our freedom. Like it was stated in DEAR MR. OBAMA, “the day we lose our will to fight, is the day we lose our freedom.” I wasn’t just talking about the war. There is a fight right here for America’s heart and soul, and if we sit back, we lose. We have to fight the media. We have to fight the activist judges. We have to fight corrupt politicians. We have to fight the colleges and Universities that pervert our young adults.

The far left radicals and politicians count on Americans being too busy to research and study a candidate. They count on our lives being so busy, we’ll accept whatever Tom Brokaw, Katie Couric or Chris Matthews tell us. And to a large degree, it has been effective. Otherwise, Obama never would have gotten as far as he has. If we all don’t wake up and take the time to research political candidates, we will wake up one morning and find out that the Constitution has been dissolved and we are now under a dictatorship.

For that to happen, only requires the right balance of Liberal Supreme Court Justices … and a complicit Congress. I hope that statement wakes some people up!

In conclusion, a very liberal relative of mine once asked me, “Why are you so patriotic?” My response just rolled off my tongue. Because I live in America. My kids live in America. I want the same freedoms, the same opportunities I have enjoyed to be available to them, as well as, their children. I want a good future for them and for America.

Dear Mr. Obama Commentary

Editor’s Note: When I saw Joe Cook’s brief interview with Sheperd Smith on FoxNews Friday afternoon (2008-10-31), I realized that these two guys might become the latest targets of the extreme left-wing attack media.

Since Michael and I have chatted a few times, I was hoping he might do this interview. I really didn’t know what his answers would be. As I carefully perused his replies, I got choked up a little myself. This guy is sincere; he is genuine.

His wisdom and his compassion shine through the words like beams of light. In my humble opinion, he could well be a commentator on FoxNews. He has the sincerity of Mike Huckabee, the aggressive use of facts like Sean Hannity, and the conversational charisma of Rush Limbaugh. It was, indeed, an honor to interview Michael C. Brown.

Update 2008-11-11 …
Michael has started a new, post-election YouTube channel: TheObamaFactor.

Thank you Joshua. LukeAmerica2020 did a great interview with a great man. We are blessed to have such patriotic men working to defend our country. And John McCain has many years of experience defending our great country. As a prisoner of war, he paid a high price. We need a military man in the White House.
