Commendable Commentary: Weekly Update

by LukeAmerica2020
We’ve started a new column this week to be published each Sunday. Most of us just don’t have the time to give even a cursory perusal to the abundance of conservative commentary and news, so we’re helping with the quest. These articles, by established political pundits, highlight issues and headlines from the week.

Truthers to the Left of Me,
Truthers to the Right
Friday, December 5, 2008
Did you know that Sarah Palin-haters are still trying to prove she didn’t give birth to her youngest son, Trig? These tinfoil hat-wearers are as obnoxious and unhinged as the 9/11 Truth cultists who insist that America engineered the jihadi attacks on itself. The presidential campaign may be over, but there’s no expiration date on Palin Derangement Syndrome.

Chambliss Win Offers Secret for GOP Comeback
Thursday, December 4, 2008
We have written before that the message of the November election results for us is simple: Conservatism and the free enterprise system are too important to leave their protection to the morons who run the Republican Party.

So when even the ability to filibuster seemed on the verge of being taken from the forces of conservative government, we decided to act by helping to raise funds for independent expenditure groups who are willing to run the kind of ads and do the sort of cyber-roots campaigning that was essential to stop the slide in conservative fortunes and guarantee Democrats would not get the elusive but crucial 60th vote in the Senate.

The Cleanest State Meets the Pushiest Person
Wednesday, December 3, 2008
Until now, Minnesota was always famous for its clean elections. Indeed, Democratic consultant Bob Beckel recently attested to the honesty of Minnesota’s elections, joking: “Believe me. I’ve tried. I’ve tried every way around the system out there, and it doesn’t work.”

But that was before Minnesota encountered the pushiest, most aggressive, most unscrupulous person who has ever sought public office, Al Franken.

Jesus Versus the Atheists
Saturday, December 6, 2008
Just in time for the Christmas season, Washington State Gov. Christine Gregoire has insulted Christians all over the world. Inside the state Capitol building in Olympia there is a traditional holiday display featuring a tree and the Nativity scene; perfectly appropriate since the federal and state Christmas holiday celebrates the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

But this year Gregoire decided to add another item to the display. Standing alongside the baby Jesus is a giant placard designed by atheists that reads: “There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.”

Columnists Call for Taxpayer Revolt – Want More Socialism
Thursday, December 4, 2008
Back in September, I happened upon a column titled ‘Time for a Taxpayer Revolt.’ As I began to read the column, I thought, “This is good.” The two authors were outlining the disaster of the so-called “bail outs” underway. As I worked my way through the column, I realized it was just more blame Republicans. At the bottom of this drivel, out popped the ignorance of the authors as they spewed their socialism: the government should help people build houses, create jobs for the greenie movement and universal health care.

I don’t know where Medea Benjamin & Arun Gupta went to school, but it’s obvious they know nothing about our legal form of government or the U.S. Constitution. Yet, these socialists who hide behind the “liberals” label have a large forum where they pump out their propaganda. Because Americans are so under educated from attending the dumbing down institutions they call public schools and blind loyalty to their political party, they believe it.

The Arrogance Of Compulsory ‘Service’
Wednesday, December 3, 2008
Most people on the left are not opposed to freedom. They are just in favor of all sorts of things that are incompatible with freedom.

Freedom ultimately means the right of other people to do things that you do not approve of. Nazis were free to be Nazis under Hitler. It is only when you are able to do things that other people don’t approve of that you are free.

One of the most innocent-sounding examples of the left’s many impositions of its vision on others is the widespread requirement by schools and by college admissions committees that students do “community service.”
